Have you noticed that there are different kinds of hunger? There’s the hungry-for-something hunger, the little-bit-hungry hunger, the I-need-something-sweet-salty-crunchy hunger, the if-I-don’t-eat-something-in-two-minutes-I’m-going-to-pass-out hunger, and the plain old I-need-some-food hunger. Then there are the non-hungers: I’m eating because I am bored-sad-happy-tired-lonely-overwhelmed.
Sometimes you just want something to make you feel better and because, when we were infants, a full belly made us feel better, that is what we do, fill our bellies in hopes of feeling better. Too bad it doesn’t work.
Yesterday, I woke up feeling thin (but wasn’t). Today, I woke up feeling fat, even though the scale says the same weight. I also feel crabby and weepy (hormones?) and deprived – I want a hamburger and fries! Or pizza! I’m sick of veggies and fruit and whole grains. Bring on the chocolate!
What I ate yesterday:
-
coffee w/ half ‘n’ half
-
2 hard-boiled eggs
-
banana
-
cream of tomato soup w/ cheese
-
potato w/ broccoli and non-fat yogurt
-
kiwi and pineapple w/ non-fat yogurt
-
salad – greens, celery, carrots, sunflower seeds, rosemary balsamic vinegar
-
apple
-
popcorn – 3 qts. w/ parmesan
Yesterday’s exercise: yoga (oh, and my shoulders hurt, too!)
